The Dig Goes On

We are now back “Digging Holes” or should we say “Test Pits” in the pursuit of future evidence relating to the historical development of Dilton Marsh.

Our most recent dig took place on Saturday 22nd September in Stormore, Dilton Marsh and will shortly be followed by another in the same area.

Find included clay smoking pipe stems with part bowls, an assortment of post medieval pottery, a musket ball and possibly handmade nails. All in all a fairly standard selection quite similar to other test pits completed earlier this year.

We also had the benefit of a metal detector on site, which brought to light a most interesting range of items; some of which we have illustrated with this report.

Should any one reading this article feel they would like to have a test pit carried out on their premises, then please do get in touch with any of our committee members and we will endeavour to respond as soon as possible.
